In 1954, the Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory was born. In 1972, it was relocated and rebuilt, and landed at No. 72, Shuhua Street, Qingyang District, Chengdu. In 1975, the completion was completed, and since then, the lacquerware factory has never changed its address. For more than 60 years, the Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory has made every effort to carry forward and continue the representative project of the national intangible cultural heritage of Chengdu lacquer art.
In recent years, under the leadership of the national intangible cultural heritage inheritor Yin Liping and the provincial intangible cultural heritage inheritor Li Yangping and others, the Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory has bravely become a “slash youth”.
Before the restructuring in 2014, more than 90% of the works in the factory were biased towards pure artistry. After the formal completion of the restructuring, the factory followed the “double return” path of “allowing design to return to tradition and allowing tradition to return to life”, allowing lacquerware such as cups, bowls, jewelry, and tea sets to truly penetrate into the lives of the general public. In July 2019, “Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory Co., Ltd.” was selected for the list of the first batch of Sichuan Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Project Experience Bases. In addition, lacquerware theme exhibitions, lacquer art aesthetic sharing sessions, cross-border collaborations, etc., have further brought the intangible cultural heritage aesthetic of Chengdu lacquer art into the daily lives of modern people.
In March 2021, the Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory was rated as the first batch of “demonstration sites of Qingyang District community beautiful spaces”, and connected with “community beautiful spaces” such as the Chengdu Painting Academy and Shibijia to create high-quality “city + culture” scenes, light up the beautiful life of the community with creative design and aesthetic expression, show the beauty of the community in the new era, and depict the change of Qingyang in new opportunities.
4,500 years of Chengdu civilization, 3,000 years as close as glue and lacquer. The Chengdu Lacquerware Craft Factory, as the core production area of current Chengdu lacquerware, is taking on a new look and decorating every ordinary and beautiful moment. It will live in Chengdu as a “perfect neighbor” and allow “space beauty”, “craft beauty”, “object beauty”, and “inheritance beauty” to be fully displayed.
